Ed Fella (on the right) in his little office at CalArts, here together with Henri Lucas).
Since I first met Ed in 2003, we’ve stayed in touch. We both share a lot of interests, but most importantly, a love for the American vernacular. Whenever I’m visiting, there’s just too many things to see and talk about.

After revisting him once or twice, we were asked to do a collaboration for the new old offset press at the CalArts graphic design dept..
From Ed Fella’s many sketchbooks
Offset printed ‘after the event’ flyers he sends out to collegues and graphic friends
They never managed to get the damn thing going, so I decided to make a poster myself, mixing some of Ed’s graphic elements from Letters on America with my own travel photography.
Ed and me both like to drive through the countryside and stop often to check out akward little places. The design of this poster is thus a landscape seen from a car: looking at the road ahead driving into the Californian hills while looking back in the mirror.
A true Collaboration-at-a-Distance!
